“Use video to perfect technical flaws.”

If you have access to a video camera, use it! I know it can be hard to go back and watch yourself, but it can help correct technical flaws if you use it correctly.

You need to use it consistently, too. That doesn’t mean you have to video every session. But use it over a period of time. Say, every 2 weeks. This way you can track your progress.

“Use the mirror as a training aide for technical development.”

A mirror can be an indispensable training aide. By watching yourself in the mirror, you can correct many visible technical flaws in your performance.

A word of caution, though… don’t let this become a crutch! It’s easy to fall into the habit of ALWAYS watching yourself in the mirror. This can become a technical error in itself.

So, use the mirror. It doesn’t lie. It will clearly show you when mistakes creep in. But don’t let it become a habit.

“Concentrate on being as technical as possible in your training.”

Beginners naturally compensate for technical proficiency with speed and power. This is to be expected.

Eventually you will need to surpass this. Otherwise, you will always rely on your physical attributes and the older you get, the more these attributes deteriorate.

So start now to put a major emphasis on being as technical as possible. You will be glad you did!
